Biography

I am a Montreal based artist who combines a love of painting and observation  to give life to my images. My obsession is with current culture and lifestyle sprinkled with a touch of drama.

My work is largely influenced by the fashion world. My design experienced formed the way I observe my surroundings, in elongated forms, edgy features and use of colour. Portraits of women are my main focus. I communicate with the viewer through the eyes of my subjects. I am in a non stop process of finding beauty in the mundane and capturing the moment.

Combining line drawings with splashes of colour, my work uses portraiture as a starting point. The image is allowed to develop through the process of applying paint, gestural brush stokes and the heightened use of colour add emotion and expressive dynamic to the work.

The portraits capture the sense of being, where the beauty and timelessness of the world come into sharp focus. The women I paint are subtle yet strong, bold yet delicate; balancing these contradictions provide individuality to each piece.

I am interested in capturing moments of expression that portray the human psyche, of blurring the line between fact and fiction. I think of these works as character studies rather than portraits.
